Hormones Make Us Overeat

Many of us, even if we’re stuffed, will overeat, especially if we really like the food.
Turns out, ghrelin, a chemical that signals appetite, makes us do it.
Writing in the journal Biological Psychiatry, scientists tested the notion that sometimes our brains just tell us to eat more.
Researchers pumped some mice full of ghrelin, and those mice started hanging out in a room where they previously were given a tasty treat.
But mice not given ghrelin didn’t care about the room.
Experts believe the ghrelin prompted mice to remember how much they loved the treat, so they were driven to seek it out, regardless of fullness.
Scientists say mice handle ghrelin very similarly to humans, but mice don’t pound a pint of ice cream when their team gets knocked out of the playoffs!
